LookTop Tip:  Email Sign-up forms.

One thing that irritates the heck out of us is being asked to give our life story when signing up for email updates.

Yes, please send me the ‘Top 10 Tips to becoming the World’s Fastest Juggler‘.  I would love to receive a ‘Whitepaper on Cupcake Making′.  But please, why do I need to fill in a form that resembles my last mortgage application to get it?

One thing that successful businesses understand is the value of great data.  Preferably double opt-in, fresh and engaged data.  Yet what so many companies are really, really bad at, is harvesting quality visitor data from their web sites.

I’m not talking agreeing to emails at the end of a transaction – those are no brainers.  I’m talking landing pages, home pages, info pages on the average web site, be it – B2B or B2C.

Why would you waste my time and yours, generating and collating massive forms with infinite fields? Besides which, you can, legally, only hold on to data you use.

So, do as I tell you and your and your clients, will do well:

  •  Compel me to sign up by making me an offer I can’t refuse.
  •  Ask me for minimal data in return for that offer.
  •  Tell me what you plan to do with my data.
  •  Follow me up quickly and appropriately.
  •  Engage with me – then ask me for my life history.
  •  Most important - MAKE SURE I CAN FIND YOUR SIGN-UP, AT A GLANCE!

There you have it.  Easy peasy.

Oh and using Qmailer gives your clients a seamless sign-up routine - including automatic, immediate autoresponders - otherwise known as 'Thank You For Signing Up' emails...
